Product Review: Infinity Jars

Hello beautiful people!

Time sure flies. It was over a month ago when I received these gorgeous glass cosmetic bottles from Infinity Jar in exchange for an honest write-up. If you enjoy DIY beauty as much as I do, I think you’ll agree with me that these glass jars truly are a must-have!

One thing you’ll want to consider when creating your own essential oil blends or beauty recipes, is how quickly your product will go rancid if exposed to sunlight. I love the fact that Infinity Jars blocks out visible light rays, preserving the freshness of its contents and slowing down the decaying process of organic matter. Continue reading

Calamine Lotion for Oily Skin

Hello again!

Right now is a prime time to talk about priming (corny, don’t judge me)! I stopped using Milk of Magnesia as a face primer when I read about how damaging it could be to the skin over time. MoM is too acidic for daily use, and breaks down your skin’s protective barrier if you use it too often. No thanks! My boyfriend was absolutely disgusted to know I was priming my face with a laxative, but that didn’t bother me (LOL!). The long-term results did! I noticed the oiliness and acne were worse on the days when I didn’t prime my face with the MoM. I knew I had to find something else, so I was excited to stumble upon a blogger chatting up calamine lotion as a safer alternative.  Continue reading

May VeganCuts Beauty Box First Impressions

Hey, beautiful people! My May VeganCuts Beauty Box arrived in the mail yesterday, so I thought I’d share my first impressions with you. I also included a few discount codes for anyone interested. Enjoy!

The Terre Mere Cosmetics blush brush ($34 value) I received is a 100% cruelty-free brush ergonomically designed to highlight your features for a subtle glow. I haven’t used it yet, but I’ll likely add it to my brush rotation. Very delicate, but dense enough to pick up mineral blush. I’m looking forward to trying it out. Until June 30, 2016, take 50% off your entire purchase with code “VEGANCUTS” at TerreMereCosmetics.com. Nice! Continue reading

Rosemary & Lavender Clay Face Mask

Suitable for Oily Skin

2 Tablespoons Natural Bentonite Clay
1 1/2 Tablespoons* Distilled Water
1 Drop Rosemary Essential Oil
1 Drop Lavender Essential Oil

Use non-metal bowls and mixing utensils when using bentonite clay. Mix the clay and water first before adding in the essential oils. I like to leave the mask on for 20 minutes before gently removing with a warm, wet cloth. The pulsating, tightening feeling that you might experience are all normal when using bentonite clay. Any redness will subside after about 20 minutes. Continue reading

Rah Rah Sis-Boom-RAGA!

Just another Mani Monday! Today we’re taking it back to the time I tried out Raga Varnish in the color “Sahasrara.” It only took two coats for full color. I received this pretty purple shade in the February Vegan Cuts Beauty Box. Raga Varnish is a cruelty-free, vegan nail polish company made in the US. To learn more about their brand, visit their website or follow them on Instagram!

Mother’s Day Mani w/ Sparitual

Good morning beautiful people. This morning I painted my nails with an old favorite – Sparitual “On The Dunes,” a gorgeous pale gold shimmer. The shade was the perfect compliment to my dark complexion, and works well with the black-white-tan wardrobe color scheme I’ve been rocking for the past few months.

I hope you and your loved ones had an amazing day. What are you favorite nail colors to wear?

Until next time!

Get The Look: Seeing Green

I was especially pleased with the color payoff of the eye shadow! From 7 in the morning until I washed my face at night, I experienced zero creasing. The color was just as vibrant 15 hours later! Now that’s impressive! I’m definitely no makeup artist, but I plan to post more makeup looks to demonstrate how nontoxic brands perform. The Silk Naturals brand is extremely affordable, with high quality products that deliver. I’m so happy Nicki Evans put me on!

The Magic of Oils For Skin Care

One of the key differences between conventional skin care and natural or organic skin care is not the “active” ingredients such as green tea or vitamin c, which excluding water may make up to about 5% of any product, rather it lies with the base ingredients. In natural skin care, the base ingredients are often a mix of vegetable oils and butters or waxes in contrast to the synthetic ingredients often found in conventional skin care. The use of base oils has enormous benefit for the skin. Instead of being an inert (non-active) synthetic carrier for the active ingredients, base oils contain nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids that support and nourish the skin. I would go so far as to count base oils as active ingredients in skin care. So, in fact, in natural products up to 95% of any product has a supportive “active” effect on the skin. In comparison, the synthetic base ingredients in conventional skin care by enlarge, lack significant therapeutic benefit.

You Don’t Have the Same 24 Hours as Beyonce

Hello there, beautiful people.

I’m sure you’ve heard or read the following lie before:

“You have the same 24 hours as Beyonce.”

Um, yeah. Actually, no. You don’t have the same 24 hours. You don’t even have 24 hours.  Beyonce doesn’t either. If you subtract the 8 hours that we’re supposed to be sleeping, and the 10 hours that many of us spend working for someone else and commuting, we are left with 6. How you spend those 6 hours is largely dependent upon your family composition and household obligations (ok, let’s call them labors of love), extracurriculars, and whatever else you’ve got going on. Oh, you have a newborn? You attend night school? You work a second job? You’re going to have to do your own math then, sweetheart. I majored in journalism, and you’ve got too many instances where I’ll have to carry a 1. The point is, you don’t have 24 hours. Continue reading
